Jason Utgaard is a Minnesota native who moved to Utah in 2007 to work for his family’s nationwide chain of sporting goods stores. Later as a Merchandise Manager for Overstock.com, Groupon, and other online retailers, he recognized an opportunity to launch an eCommerce website dedicated exclusively to products made from recycled materials – an experience discussed in his TED Talk on how to design the future using recycled materials. Prior to his current work with RUBICONSmartCity, Jason was the General Manager of Momentum Recycling where he spearheaded the growth of recycling collections and oversaw the company’s glass recycling facility: his work led to being awarded Top 40 Under 40 by Waste360 as well as Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste award. In addition to the Waste Less Solutions board, Jason is also on the board of the Utah Recycling Alliance and sits on the Salt Lake City Food Policy Council. In his free time, you can find Jason skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.
